On Changing Habits

Joined a group thats helping bangalore deal with 'waste'. Started off with domestic biodegradable waste composting at home using a simple device called Daily Dump. Its been working wonderfully well for us. We generate enough compost to feed our plants at home and ensure that we do not dump kitchen waste into the general garbage collection area.

Been trying to get people educated to this process for almost a year now. Challenged by the fact that people do not want to compost waste at home! Smell being one of the biggest concerns. Tried doing it at the apartment level as well. Tried educating people. Went from apartment to apartment. Total acceptance to the concept but complete apathy to its implementation!

Nobody seems interested.

I'm sure I have not done something well. What can I do better?

Or is it that sometimes only punitive actions or penalties work best?

I wonder !!!!

I'm always intrigued by the process of development, particularly in corporate environments. Employees are asked to develop themselves along a range of competencies (read behaviours) oftentimes even without a rationale for that development. Does development planning actually work?
